Everyday Heroes

Heroes are made in the trenches, in the moments where extreme conditions meet bravery, decisiveness, and sacrifice by amazing people who likely wouldn’t consider themselves heroic. Throughout our nation’s history, everyday people have taken it upon themselves to do extraordinary things, for love of home, country, and way of life, and their heroic actions have benefitted us all.

What began as a nation of outside-the-box thinkers, visionaries, innovators, and rule breakers (when the rules served only to take advantage of us), has turned our US of A into a country where we can live and breathe and work to make something of ourselves. From those rabble-rousing roots came our rights to assemble, arm, worship, speak, and govern ourselves. Future fights gave us the rights to vote and own property, and our soldiers throughout history have fought to protect our American way of life.

None of these things came easily. They came with a fight. They came with an ultimate price. They came because ordinary people were thrust into extraordinary circumstances and refused to back down.

Today, we can go to a parade, or to a cookout, or a ballgame; we can listen to Memorial Day speeches or go to a cemetery. We can travel between states and know we are safe and free. We can pursue all things good and strive to make our dreams come true. We can do this because of everyone who came before us who fought for and defended these freedoms.

Today we remember our fallen, our heroes and defenders, and every day we honor them by living our best lives.
